My statement of intent

It has been my privilege to serve as your mayor for the last four years. During that time I have had the opportunity to meet many of you and hear your concerns, your hopes and your ideas about how we can make our borough a better place for us all.

A great deal of progress has been made in that time. I've tackled many of those basic issues I promised to deal with when first elected, such as improving the refuse service and introducing a programme to improve the condition of Lewisham's roads. And I've led the greatest investment in the borough's infrastructure since the post-war period.  Schools, homes, transport, town centres, sports and health facilities have already had considerable investment and a great deal more has been agreed. Here are some of the highlights of what we have achieved.

I am now asking you for the opportunity to deliver further improvements in Lewisham and continue the work we started in 2002. It is vital that we improve the physical condition of the places where people live, learn and enjoy themselves. And we also need to make our borough a safer, more caring place.

My pledge to you is that I will strive to help you make our borough a place where difference is celebrated, where young people can find opportunities and fulfil their potential, where our older people are supported and valued, where respect and tolerance are encouraged and where we work together to make our home a safer, cleaner, greener place.

Please use the buttons to access information about specific issues.

Conclusion

There are many other issues that are of interest and concern to us all. But my purpose here is to tell you how I want to work with you to take our borough forward, rather than present a comprehensive programme for each service the council and other organisations provide.

I have set out some more detailed proposals for particular services and activities in the section called Ideas.

If you would like to read more about my vision for Lewisham, please take a look at a document I wrote during my first term as mayor called "The place we call home" - you can find it
here I have met many of you during the last four years and what you have told me has played a part in helping me to decide to offer myself for re-election. Alone I can achieve nothing but together we can make Lewisham a place we can all be proud to call home.
